This course teaches you the key features of academic writing for third level. On completion of this course you will learn the following:

  • Formality - avoiding a casual style
  • Complexity - avoiding a simplistic style
  • Bibliographies - writing a list of sources
  • Referencing - putting quotes in
  • Punctuation - using commas, apostrophies etc.
  • Grammar - learning about key terms
  • Introductions - structuring an introduction
  • Body - topic sentences, paraphrasing etc.
  • Conclusions - structuring a conclusion
  • Revision - practicing what you have learnt

 

HOW DO I ACCESS ALC ENGLISH ACADEMIC AND REPORT WRITING? PLEASE FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING STEPS TO ACCESS THIS COURSE:


Self-enrolment for ALC English Academic and Report Writing

  1. Log into Blackboard Learn.
  2. Then click on the "Module Search"  widget at the top of the screen. Search for ALC in the search box.
  3. Scroll down the search results where you will find ALC English Academic and Report Writing.
  4. Once you've found the module, click on the action link button next to the module name and click on Enrol. This should take you to the Self Enrolment page.
  5. Use the following Access Code: alcenglish (lower case, no spaces).
  6. Finally click Submit. You should now see a message that says your enrolment was successful.
  7. Click OK to continue to the module.
